- Day 7: Brunswick to Washington DC 59 Miles -
Our final biking day on the famous Chesapeake & Ohio Historical Bike Path from Brunswick to Washington DC. This section of the C&O Towpath was my favorite due to all of the wildlife, views, history and resurfaced path. Our "Day 7: Brunswick to Washington DC" route.
- Day 6: Williamsport to Brunswick 53 Miles -
Getting closer to the finish line as we leave Williamsport (thanks to Diane's new city route) on an amazing day. Going to visit Antietam National Battlefield AND Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, our first touch in Virginia. Our "Day 6: Williamsport to Brunswick Route."
- Day 5: Little Orleans to Williamsport 50 Miles -
Today is our 5th biking day as we head from Little Orleans to Williamsport with one stop at the C&O Bike Shop in Hancock. Very scenic section. Loved the bike shop in Hancock, hated the climb to our hotel in Williamsport. Here is our "Day 5- Little Orleans to Williamsport" route.
- Day 4: Cumberland to Little Orleans 44 Miles -
Our fourth day takes us onto the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal section of our trip from Cumberland to Little Orleans for a medium 44 miler. Highlights are the Paw Paw Tunnel and our shuttle to our B&B in Little Orleans (no Marti Gras). The most rural section of the C&O Towpath with the worst trail. Our detour over the Paw Paw Tunnel was kind of a physical adventure. Here is the route for our "Day 4: Cumberland to Little Orleans."
- Day 3: Confluence to Cumberland 63 Miles -
So we are prepared to bike the longest route of our trip from Confluence to the big city of Cumberland. The city of Cumberland is the end of the GAP Trail and the beginning of the C&O Towpath. Big photo op day along these beautiful rivers. So many places to see and experience. Here is the route for our "Day 3: Confluence to Cumberland."
- Day 2: Connellsville to Confluence 30 Miles -
Our second day takes us from the town of Connellsville southwards to the quaint town of Confluence. Along the way we had resevations for the "Frank Lloyd Wright Falling Waters House." We parked our bikes in a secure location sponsored by the "Wilderness Voyageurs" for our van shuttle UP the hill to the famous house. This is the shortest mileage of the entire trip, only 30 miles. Now we get the "real feel" of the GAP Trail. Everything is green and wonderfully beautiful. Here is our route on the "Day 2- Connellsville to Confluence."
- Day 1: Pittsburgh to Connellsville 60 Miles -
Our first leg of our 350 mile trip beginning in Pittsburgh to Connellsville. We begin at Point State Park in downtown Pittsburgh at Mile 0, our starting location. Lots of city sites before heading into the beautiful countryside. We had asphalt for about 25 miles, then the path turned to DG (decomposed granite). This first day seemed too long as most of us were tired at the end. Here is our route for "Day 1- Pittsburgh to Connellsville".
